Our second tournament went well in that the high winds that were forecast did not materialize to the extent they were predicted. The staff at Mossy Point were there early for us and everyone cooperated with the inspection and tagging process and we got underway in good time. Every member was able to catch a limit of bass! The winning weight for the day was Paul Pflieger with 17.72 lbs. and a 5.42 lunker. Second place was Co-Angler Mike Richard with 16.72 lbs. and winning a plaque for third was George Locke with 15.00 lbs. Congratulations to Paul on his 11th AAB Tournament win, the last one being in 2015!
We opened our season on June 9 on Northern Champlain at Rouses Point and despite high water and murky water members went out and caught some great limits of fish. The day was led by Steve Broderick with 17.44 lbs. and a 3.99 lunker, followed by Dan Munsell with 16.22 lbs. and Al Maher with 14.55lbs. Lunker of the day was 4.21 caught by Frank Polomaine. Day 2 Steve Broderick came back with 18.26 lbs. , Jim Underhill our 2018 Angler of The Year caught 17.14 and Consistent Al Maher had 16.04 lbs. Lunker from day 2 was 4.50 caught by Steve Broderick. Steve Broderick scored his second AA win with a total of 35/70 lbs., Jim Underhill second with 31.58lbs and Al Maher with a plaque for 3rd with 30.59 lbs. Steve’s first win was at the same location in 2017.
On a cold and windy day up north, the club took on the crystal clear waters of Schroon Lake. The fishing was tough for most, but a number of club members found the big ones. Bill Pigott crushed a 16.34 lb mixed bag for the win with a 5.50lb kicker. His co-angler Dan Munsell added a 5.68lb beauty that took second lunker for the year. Rounding out the top three with really nice days were Charlie Curcurito with 15.40 and Al Dickinson with 14.69. Additionally, congrats to Jimmy Underhill who locked down the 2018 Bassman title!
The club fished the Mohawk River in some nasty fast moving muddy water on a nice fall day. The river was largely feast or famine, with eight club members catching one or less fish. On the flip side, Anthony Curcurito was able to put together a massive bag of smallies by any standards, let alone one from the Mohawk. He won the tournament with 19.08lbs! Coming in second was Frank Rossetti with 14.95lbs and Joe Curcurito in third place with 14.94lbs (no benefit of the doubt). Congrats to Anthony on an incredible day!
With a near record setting five fish limit weighing 20.79 pounds (21.04 without penalty), Jim Underhill blows away the rest of the club with a resounding win! Jim had a 6.32 pound kicker to boot and is at the top of the list for lunker of the year. Congrats Jim! Finishing in second was Anthony Curcurito with 16.20lbs and George Locke in third with 15.41lbs. Congratulations!
Congratulations to Matt Zapala for his win on Northern Champlain July 28 and 29. Matt bested the field with a 2-day weight of 27.79lbs (day 1 11.45, day 2 16.44), including a 4.19lb smallmouth lunker on day 2. I am looking forward to his presentation Friday night on how he accomplished this win. It is not easy to get a win in this club with the quality of the anglers we have.
Also, Congratulations to Joe Curcurito who finished second with 27.07 lbs. and Frank Polomaine who finished third with 26.36lbs. All in all, fishing was pretty good considering the large number of boats on the lake practicing for the BASS Northern Open. There are many stories of big fish that were lost during this tournament. Once again, we were subject to some tricky winds during some parts of both days. Thanks to everyone who made this event successful.
Congratulations to Gene Lavigne on back to back wins! Despite holiday weekend boat traffic and a brutal heatwave, Gene found 13.34 pounds of Saratoga Lake largemouth. Congratulations are also due to Elisha Flint finishing in second place with 12.66, and Al Maher finishing in third with 11.73. Elisha also caught the lunker for the day, a 3.97 pound largemouth.
Our season opener on Lake George. The first day leaders had solid 12+ lb limits, a bit lower than what most anglers were expecting to see at the scales. The top 3 after one day of fishing were Jim Underhill (3rd place), newcomer David Black (2nd place) and leading, George Locke. Lunker fish included a 3.64 lb LM caught by Jim Underhill and a 4.24 lb LM caught by Elisha Flint.
Day 2 weights were slightly lower overall. Top 3 weights included Al Maher, Gene Lavigne and Frank Rossetti. Second day lunker honors went to the Al's, with Al Dickinson's 3.74 lb LM and Al Maher's 3.84 lm SM.
The final weights were extremely close, with places 2-8 separated by only 1.09 lbs. The top 3 positions went to Paul Pflieger (3rd), Matt Zapala (2nd) and bringing home the win, Gene Lavigne.
Congratulations on a great win Gene!
Congratulations to George Locke and Charlie Crouchman with a winning weight of 47.34. Only 0.13 pounds behind, with a weight of 47.21 was the team of Frank Polomaine and Keith Repscher. Finishing in third was the team of Elisha Flint and Anthony Curcurito with a limit weighing 43.46. Great job everyone!
Al Dickinson proudly displays his 2017 Bassman of the Year trophy along with the travelling trophy. Al gave a great speech at our Awards Night, letting everyone know how much the club means to him and how much effort he puts into each tournament. Congratulations Al on a great 2017 season!
