Club History
and Information
The Albany Area Bassmasters
(AABM) was founded in March of 1975 with seven Charter members. None of these guys were diehard fishermen at the time; the club
was envisioned more as a social group with a fishing focal point. The competitiveness of the fishing has grown over the years and
the Albany Area Bassmasters have earned a reputation for being one
of the most winning clubs in New York State. Along with the
competitive
spirit, the camaraderie and brotherhood shared among our members
has allowed the club to grow and flourish over the past 25
years. Members have come and gone, but you will find that anyone
who has belonged to our club for more than a couple of seasons takes
great pride in their membership and the accomplishments of their
fellow club members. The Albany Area Bassmasters remain an active
supporter of the New York State Bass Chapter Federation. Our club
has won the New York State Bass Chapter Federation's Club Team Event
three times, with the last win coming in 1998 on the Hudson River. We have had six of our members win the New York State Bass Chapter
Federation's Angler of the Year title: George Locke, Frank Maher,
Harry Morgan, Tony Damiano, Brian Cavert, and Dave Jarvis. Three
of our members have moved on to the National Federation Championships
following the Eastern Divisionals: Terry Fleming, George Locke and
Frank Maher. We also have
supported the Capital Region's Big Brother/Big Sister program, the
Food bank of Northeastern New York and the Children's Unit at Albany
Medical Center.
Our club meets on the first Friday of each
month at the American Legion located at 200 Columbia Turnpike in
East Greenbush. Prospective members are voted on after
attending 5 club functions which include monthly meetings, club
events, and non-points tournaments.
