Events
The Albany Area Bassmasters have
participated in the Bassmaster Casting Kids Program since the
winter of 1991, the year of its inception. We held our first event
at the Sportsman Show at the Schenectady Armory on Washington
Avenue, in Schenectady of that year and put over 100 children
through the program. Today, there are no longer any local sportsman
shows for the club to participate in, but we have formed a mutually
rewarding partnership with the Guilderland Chamber of Commerce
thanks to the efforts of one of our long time members who also
is a member of the Chamber. For the several past years our club
has been an active participant during the Guilderland Chamber
of Commerce's Family Expo at the Crossgates Mall and we have introduced
countless children to the fun of fishing. Our expert anglers spend
time with each child as they learn the three basic lure presentation
techniques. These techniques are the flip (an underhand lure delivery
at a short distance designed to enter the water noiselessly),
the pitch (an underhand lure delivery at a greater distance),
and the cast (an overhand delivery of the lure to a target). Our
winners each year have gone on to compete at the New York State
Bass Chapter Federation's Bassmaster Casting Kids championships.
In 1995, our club produced a winner and every year our club champions
have made a good accounting for themselves and have shown excellent
technique and sportsmanship.
